01What is Rapid Assets?

Rapid Assets is a free Unity Editor plugin that turns text prompts into production-ready images and 3D models, then imports them directly into your project. Open it via Window ▸ Rapid Assets, sign in, and generate without ever leaving Unity.

Type what you need, and finished assets land in Assets/Rapid Assets Imports/ automatically: images as textures, 3D models as GLB meshes, ready to drop into any scene. Generation runs in the Rapid Assets cloud, so your machine stays fast.

02How it works

The entire pipeline is designed so that you only ever do the creative part. Here's what happens from prompt to placed asset:

1

Describe it

What happens: you type a prompt (or pick a workflow) in the Rapid Assets window and choose Thinking or Fast mode. Why it matters: natural language replaces hours of searching. You describe exactly what your game needs, not the closest thing someone else made.

2

Generate in the cloud

What happens: the plugin securely sends your request to the Rapid Assets backend, where GPU generation runs. Why it matters: the heavy compute happens off your machine, so the Editor stays fast and your laptop fans stay quiet.

3

Stream live progress

What happens: generation status streams back in real time via server-sent events, with automatic polling as a fallback. Why it matters: you see exactly where each job is, with no guessing and no manual refreshing.

4

Auto-import to Assets/

What happens: the moment a job completes, the finished image or model downloads and imports into your project automatically. Why it matters: no Downloads folder, no renaming, no drag-and-drop, no manual import settings.

5

Use it in your game

What happens: the asset sits in Assets/Rapid Assets Imports/, optionally with a generated material, ready to drag into a scene. Why it matters: idea to in-engine asset, with zero file plumbing in between.

03Requirements: check before you install

Make sure your setup is covered before following the install steps. If you're on a supported Unity version with an internet connection, you're good to go.

Supported Unity versionsUnity 2022 LTS and Unity 6 (6000 LTS) recommended
Supported platforms (Editor)Windows 10/11 and macOS
Render pipeline supportURP, HDRP, and Built-in. Images import as textures, models as GLB; auto-materials default to URP/Lit with a Standard shader fallback
DependenciesNewtonsoft JSON (bundled / standard Unity package); internet connection for cloud generation

09Workflow overview: six specialized pipelines

Beyond open-ended generation, Rapid Assets ships with six dedicated workflows built around the asset jobs developers and technical artists repeat constantly. Each one takes your input and produces a specific, predictable result, with no prompt engineering required. Select a workflow, describe what you want, and let the pipeline handle the rest.

1. Character Turnaround

Problem: animators and modelers need consistent multi-angle reference of a character before they can build or rig it. Solution: generate a clean turnaround sheet with front, side, and back views of any character from a single description or reference image. Benefit: a production-ready reference sheet in seconds, perfect for modeling, rigging, and style locking.

Character Turnaround: front, side, and back views of a dark wizard generated in one pass inside Unity.

See more Character Turnaround examples

2. Background Removal

Problem: character art, item icons, and store assets need clean transparent backgrounds, which normally means manual masking in an image editor. Solution: the Background Removal workflow strips the background automatically and returns a crisp cut-out with transparency. Benefit: drop-in sprites and icons with perfect alpha, ready for your UI or 2D scene.

3. Image Variations

Problem: a single concept is rarely enough. You need options to compare and to fill out a set. Solution: Image Variations takes one image and generates multiple stylistic and compositional alternatives. Benefit: explore directions fast and build cohesive asset sets from one starting point.

Rapid Assets Unity plugin Image Variations workflow: arcane sorceress mage in enchanted forest setting, variation 1

Variation 1: sorceress mage in an enchanted forest, generated from one reference image.

Rapid Assets Unity plugin Image Variations workflow: same sorceress mage in a crystalline sky setting, variation 2

Variation 2: same sorceress, different setting and lighting in one pass.

4. Pose Variations

Problem: sprite sheets, idle/action sets, and character showcases need the same character captured in several poses. Solution: Pose Variations generates a set of distinct poses for a single character in one pass. Benefit: build 2D pose sets and references without commissioning each pose individually.

Rapid Assets Unity plugin Pose Variations workflow: dark horned armored knight in a hero arms-wide pose

Pose Variation 1: dark horned knight in a hero pose generated from a single reference.

Rapid Assets Unity plugin Pose Variations workflow: same dark knight in a dynamic combat pose with lightning effects

Pose Variation 2: same character, dynamic combat pose with lightning in one pass.

See more Pose Variations examples

5. Facial Pose Sheet

Problem: expressive characters need an expression sheet (happy, angry, surprised, sad) for animation, dialogue portraits, and UI. Solution: the Facial Pose Sheet workflow produces a grid of facial expressions for your character automatically. Benefit: a complete emotion set ready for a dialogue system or portrait UI, generated in one step.

Rapid Assets Unity plugin Facial Pose Sheet workflow: 3x3 expression grid for an anime elf female character

Facial Pose Sheet: a 3×3 expression grid for a female elf character, generated in one step.

6. Pose Transfer

Problem: you have a character you like but need them in a specific pose for a scene, promo, or animation key. Solution: Pose Transfer applies a target pose to your character while preserving their identity and style. Benefit: reuse one character design across many poses without redrawing or re-modeling.

10Who uses it: real examples

Here's how Rapid Assets fits into real production at three very different scales.

Indie game development

ProblemA solo developer building a 2D action RPG needs dozens of enemy portraits, item icons, and environment props, but has no art budget and no dedicated artist.
How it helpsGenerate enemy concept art with Text-to-Image, run Background Removal for clean UI icons, and use the Facial Pose Sheet workflow to create dialogue portraits, all without leaving Unity.
ResultA full visual identity for the game produced in days instead of months, at zero asset cost, with a consistent art direction the developer controls.

A full pixel-art character set, generated and imported as game-ready sprites.

Weapons, shields, and items: a cohesive icon set from a single prompt.

Mobile game development

ProblemA small mobile studio iterating on a casual game needs constant fresh assets for A/B testing icons, characters, and store creatives, fast and cheap.
SolutionFast mode and Image Variations spin up multiple versions of every asset in minutes, importing the winners straight into the build.
ResultFaster live-ops iteration, more creative tests per sprint, and store assets produced in-house without a creative agency.

Large studio production

ProblemA larger team needs to prototype levels and lock art direction quickly during pre-production, but blocking on the art pipeline stalls design.
SolutionDesigners generate placeholder props with Text-to-3D and reference turnarounds with the Character Turnaround workflow, keeping prototypes moving while the art team focuses on hero assets.
ResultDesign and art unblock each other, pre-production accelerates, and the team validates ideas before committing expensive modeling hours.

Also a fit for

PC Developers

Fill large worlds with custom props and key art without a marketplace bill. Prototype levels fast and lock art direction early.

Technical Artists

Automate the repetitive jobs (cut-outs, turnarounds, expression sheets) and spend your time on the high-value polish only you can do.

Tool Developers

A native Editor integration that fits your pipeline, with projects, sessions, and a predictable import folder structure to build around.

Marketing for Publishers

Generate banners, promo imagery, and consistent preview art for your existing Asset Store listings, all inside the engine you already publish from.

The plugin is one part of the full platform. Everything it does, and more, is also available on the web at rapidassets.ai, and your projects sync across both.

11Troubleshooting

The most common setup issues and their fixes:

The plugin doesn't appear under Window ▸ Rapid Assets

Check the Console for compile errors; the menu only registers once your project compiles cleanly. Confirm you selected the package.json inside the unzipped plugin folder (not the zip itself), and that you're on Unity 2021.3 LTS or newer. Re-run the install steps if needed; the Package Manager updates in place.

Sign-in fails or hangs

The Editor needs an internet connection to reach rapidassets.ai. If you're behind a corporate firewall or proxy, make sure rapidassets.ai is allowed. Then close and reopen the Studio window and try again.

A generation stays "in progress" for a long time

Live progress streams over server-sent events; some networks block long-lived connections. The plugin automatically falls back to polling, so the job will still complete, so give it a moment. If it never resolves, check your connection and re-send the prompt.

I imported an asset but can't find it

Everything lands under Assets/Rapid Assets Imports/ (with Models/ for 3D). Use the Ping button next to the generation to highlight the file in the Project window. No manual searching needed.
